Research Description
Carbohydrates are critical in a myriad of important biological processes including intra-cellular communication, inflammation and bacterial and viral infections. Our laboratory merges chemistry and biology to understand glycosylation using systems-based approaches. These include the creation and utilization of array technologies, cellular sensors and probes for glycosylation. We focus on four major areas of interest 1. Mapping glycan regulatory networks, including microRNA/glycan networks, 2. Studying the role of glycans and their regulators in cancer metastasis. 3. Understanding the relationship between the glycome and the microbiome (bacteria and viruses) and 4. Further developing lectin microarrays and other technologies for analyzing and modulating glycosylation.
